Johnstons Cashmere Identity(2009)
As part of a college brief we were asked by Pointsize Wolff to produce an Identity for the Scottish Cashmere company Johnstons. I produced a marqur which references the company's initials, also the mark echos the process of cashmere production and how Johnstons are experts within this industry The mark then was emphsized by a set of guidelines.

The Marque works as a tryptic. Each variations highlights a sector of the Johnstons brand.
1. Wholesale.
2. High street Retail.
3. High Fashion Line.

Designed for my final Exhibition at Edinburgh College of Art. The design was undertaken as a personal project, the design was based around legiblity a t 36pts and over as seen here in the promotional material. The large Cap height aided with the construction, because it lead to margins within the counters. This was a pragmatic experiment with type design. Working with a tight grid.

 

The compostions are based on a movement, each brochure leading a continuation of a theme, Reflecting the nature of a cat walk show. The marque is duplicated in the same process which creates a pattern of a cable weave. A form of cashmere production, which routes the brands values in a solid identity of history and tradition.

invite people to make bite sized visits. The response was to take the content and nature of the gallery and advertise the idiosyncratic nature of each portrait. This was emphasized by dividing each portrait into a parts which bleed off the

A college brief to typographically enterperate a passage of 1000 words or 5 minutes of Radio Broadcast. My response was the Apollo 8 Launch from 11 minutes. I was interested in the tension of the nature of the situation and to a single point of comittment. This informed the final resolution. Spliting the broadcast into 11 sections, (vertical coloumns) Then issueing each minute with a vertical row. Then grid ended up informing a texture of tension and dilution in the piece.
